Display screen is the vital part of the video surveillance system when you have to do the live surveillance or watch the recorded footages from DVR or NVR.Nowadays the CCTV Cameras are recording the footages in megapixel and hence we should have the matching resolution display screen for the better viewing experience .
If you do not want to invest money on a new display screen and just want occasional viewing , most of the modern day TV monitors will serve the purpose when connected to the DVR and NVR , as they are High Definition display screens and they have many options of input video connection. But , for the dedicated screen for the security systems and to watch the footage better we should know highest resolution output provided by your DVR / NVR Cameras and should go for the right monitors with the correct resolution and aspect ration .
We again have to consider the number of the cctv cameras which are there in the surveillance system and which has to be seen . Deciding the size of the monitor according to the number of cameras is very important . The more number of cameras you have the bigger is the size of the screen you need , as you will be watching all the cameras at one time on screen with each camera as an equal size of square with as many total squares as the number of the cameras and in this case if the camera are more , watching them on a small screen is not a good idea .
What is Aspect Ratio-
The aspect ratio refers to the proportions of the height and width of an image regardless of the resolution . It defines its overall shape, and it is usually shown as W:H (W is the width and H is the height). The most common aspect ratio today in CCTV industry is 4:3, and 16:9,. For an aspect ratio of 16:9 , it means if the width is divided into 16 equal parts, the height of the TV or picture should be 9 parts.
Please note that the Aspect Ratio of the display screen and aspect ration of the video is different which will get clear by seeing the above two pics .
Should I go For Standard Definition ( SD) Display Monitors For My CCTV System ?
Standard definition is the highest resolution an Analogue DVR can display record and playback , which is 960H ( 960X576 ) . The CCTV Display monitors comes into 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ration . So anything having a resolution of equal to or more than 960 H is good for the watching the footage .
Please note that the Analogue CCTV DVR can record in both the Aspect ratio of 4:3 and 16:9 so when you are viewing the footage , use the monitors with respective aspect ratio & resolution .
For example If you are recording at 720 H resolution (720 x 576) and view the footage on a display monitor with a 16:9 aspect ratio , you will feel that the images are stretched . Similarly , if you are recording at 960H resolution (960 x 576) and using a display monitor with a 4:3 aspect ratio the image will appear squashed.
Or, I should buy High Definition (HD) Display Monitors for My CCTV System ?
Nowadays CCTV Cameras and DVR-NVR are capable of recording , display and playback is High Definition resolution and hence to watch your footage properly you have to buy the display screen with the HD resolution . All the new age TV and the desktop monitors will come into this category .
For the CCTV cameras system which are working on megapixel resolution i.e. of 1.3 MP deliver 1280 x 1024 pixels footage and a 5 MP CCTV Camera System will deliver 2560 x 1920 pixel footage . Now to watch the video footage coming out of these Cameras and DVRs the display monitors which can play the footage (2560 X 1920) , the display monitors you have to buy are bit costlier and are really bigger is size .If our purpose it normal home security or office security , any HD monitor is totally capable of playing the satisfactory footage coming out of these Mega-Pixel cameras .
Connectivity is the another important aspect which has to be considered before purchasing the display screen for your video surveillance systems .Please check for the video output port of your DVR & NVR and decide on the monitor accordingly having similar video input ports . The DVRs and NVRs mostly will have VGA , HDMI And BNC output ports . New age TV and other display monitors will have VGA and HDMI input ports and a specialized Security System display monitor will have an extra BNC input along with others .
In a nutshell, we recommend you to buy a 19” monitor / TV of HD resolution for your home or for small office having up to 8 CCTV Cameras . For the bigger area and system please talk to the experts .
We will be happy to help you in any way when your security system is concerned.
